Prayer
Gracious
God, you call us to fullness of life: deliver us from unbelief and banish our
anxieties with the liberating love of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Collect for
the Seventeenth Sunday after Trinity
Almighty
God, you have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless till they find
their rest in you: pour your love into our hearts and draw us to yourself, and
so bring us at last to your heavenly city where we shall see you face to face;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in
the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
We
are grateful to Derek Witchell for taking the Holy Communion service in Long Crendon,
and to Ian Ogilvie for taking Evensong in Nether Winchendon today. Derek has kindly sent us the following: “I am a retired priest living in Thame with my wife and two
children (yes, they're still at home!) and a Border Terrier. I've lived in the area off and on for many
years. I'm a former pupil of Lord
Williams School and had an architectural practice in Thame for 25 years before
training for ordination. I served my
curacy at Bloxham and was priest in charge at Wing, Wingrave, Aston Abbotts,
Cublington, Cheddington and Mentmore before retiring from parish ministry. My wife and I now have a ministry to parents
whose children are LGBT+, and I serve on Diocesan Synod, Bishops Council and
the DAC. One of the great joys of
'retirement' is to be free to lead worship for many different congregations in
the area and I'm looking forward to joining you to worship together.”
And Ian has kindly written:
“The Rev. Ian Ogilvie was educated
at Cambridge. He is married with two
adult sons. He began his career at Holy
Trinity, Clapham Common where he ran a Youth Club for Rockers(!), before
working for three years as curate to the late Bishop Hugh Montefiore, who was
at that time Vicar of the University Church, Cambridge. The major part of his ministry was in
education as Chaplain of two schools and later a Headmaster. The
latter part of his working life was working for three charities as Director of
Fundraising. While never a full time
vicar, Ian has been linked with many parishes and he and his wife are members
of St. Peter and St. Paul Church, Tring, although he is seldom there as he does
locum work most of the time. He looks forward to meeting the people at
Nether Winchendon for the first time this evening.”
